Walking and Biking Tips

Walking and bicycling are clean, healthy and fun ways to travel and exercise. That’s why the San Antonio-Bexar County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and our transportation partners are celebrating 15 years of walking and bicycling with our Walk & Roll to Work Rally at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, May 20, 2011 at Main Plaza.   And stay tuned for the Challenges coming later in the year.

The MPO encourages the use of healthy transportation such as bicycling, walking, car/vanpooling, and busing.  Show your support of safe and healthy cycling in the San Antonio region by supporting the Bicycle Mobility Advisory Committee and the Pedestrian Mobility Advisory Committee by participating in the Walk & Roll events.

Other healthy activities are included on this Walk & Roll website for your information.  To submit your organization's event for inclusion on our website, please click here.  For more information contact Lydia Kelly at kelly@sametroplan.org or (210) 230-6911.

Upcoming Events

Texas Trails & Active Transportation Conference
Texas Bike/Ped Summit
February 1-3, 2012
San Antonio, TX

TTAT 2012 will take place at the El Tropicano Hotel located on the new Riverwalk Museum Reach, with hiking, biking, and paddling options right from the hotel door.

Active Transportation is actively growing and includes hiking trails, bike lanes, urban pedestrian corridors, paddling trails, government initiatives in rural, suburban and city areas. It encompasses recreational, work, school related and wellness focused activity for participants from all walks of life.

San Antonio is the perfect place in February to witness and experience this burgeoning interest in Trails and Active Transportation. Building from the very successful 2010 TTAT Conference in Austin, in February 2012 we’ll have something for everyone involved in the planning, construction, funding, economics, operation, management, promotion and use of active transportation.

Partnerships are important so once again BikeTexas and Texas Trails Network are bringing together municipal/state government, non-profit transportation advocacy groups, trail users, transportation engineers and planners and private businesses to share current information and examples.

Bring your hiking boots, bicycles, walking shoes, kayaks or canoes and water bottles to get a comprehensive look and see how you can impact Trails and Active Transportation in your area and across the state.
